Introduction of Idle Fees at all Shell Recharge chargers, excluding chargers at HDB car parks and condominiums

To deter hogging and reduce waiting times for EV drivers, we will be introducing idle fees at all Shell Recharge chargers, excluding chargers at HDB car parks and condominiums starting 1 September 2025. We believe this measure will promote considerate charging behaviour, enhance charger availability and improve the overall experience for all EV drivers. Thank you for your cooperation.

Details of the Idle Fees:

Locations: All Shell Recharge chargers, excluding chargers at HDB car parks and condominiums
Effective Date: Monday, 1 September 2025
Idle Fee: $0.50 per minute (capped at $40)
Grace Period:

  • Shell stations – 15 mins
  • All other chargers excluding chargers at Shell stations, HDB car parks and condominium – 30 mins

Examples of Idle Fee Calculation:

Idle for 30 minutes after charging stops: $15 actual charging cost
Idle for 31 minutes after charging stops: $15 + $0.50 idle fee = $15.50
Idle for 110 minutes after charging stops: $15 + $40 idle fee (cap) = $55

Cleaner energy with Shell (with outline)

To reduce air pollution from vehicle emissions

and move toward a more sustainable future,

Shell is electrifying our journeys.

We want to make EV charging available everywhere,

but we have power constraints…

so we looked to Earth’s largest source of energy, the sun.

EV drivers at service stations also need charging to be especially fast.

Together with Energy Market Authority and Eigen Energy, this is now possible.

We built three smart and clean energy-powered stations

that offer the fastest EV charging at service stations in Singapore,

up to 150kW.

Solar energy helps power the stations, supported by a battery.

Our smart energy management system controls the battery

to enable fast EV charging.

Now, a typical 30kWh charging session can be completed in less than 15 minutes*

*Depending on EV car model and capacity.

letting you hit the road again in no time.

At Shell, we go beyond powering vehicles.

It’s our commitment to a sustainable future.

Cleaner and faster journeys for all

with 100% certified renewable energy from the sun.

FAQ

Wallet Top-Up and RFID Card Service Changes

Why is Shell Recharge ceasing the top-up of wallet and RFID card usage?

We are simplifying the payment experience to make charging easier and more convenient. Instead of managing a wallet balance, customers will pay directly using a linked credit card. As part of this change, RFID charging cards will no longer be accepted as of 30 September 2026, and customers can continue charging seamlessly through the Shell Recharge app.

What do these changes mean for me?

Shell Recharge will continue to operate as usual. These changes only affect how some customers access and pay for charging:

  • RFID card users should switch to the Shell Recharge app with a linked credit card before 30 September 2026.
  • Fleet Hybrid Card users are not affected.
  • Existing wallet balances remain available for charging until fully used, although new top-ups will no longer be accepted as of 30 September 2026.

When will wallet top-ups stop?

Wallet top-ups will no longer be available from 30 September 2026.

Can I still use my wallet balance after 30 September 2026?

Yes. Any remaining wallet balance can continue to be used for charging sessions until it is fully depleted.

Why do I need to add a credit card if I still have wallet balance?

A valid credit card is required to start charging sessions. Your wallet balance will continue to be used automatically first, and your linked payment card will only be charged if your wallet balance is insufficient to cover the session.

How will charging payments work after wallet top-ups are discontinued?

If you have wallet balance remaining, it will automatically be used first. Once the wallet balance is exhausted, your linked credit card will be charged.

What happens to my RFID card?

Following the discontinuation of wallet top-ups from 30 September 2026, RFID cards will no longer be supported for initiating charging sessions. To continue using Shell Recharge, please ensure that you have the latest version of the Shell Recharge app and a valid credit card linked to your account.

Will I lose my charging history or receipts?

No. Your charging history and receipts will remain available in accordance with Shell Recharge record retention policies.

How will I be informed about future wallet updates?

Updates will be communicated through email and in-app messages.

What happens when my wallet balance reaches zero?

Your wallet can no longer be used for payments, and future charging sessions will be paid for using your linked credit card.

Can I still charge my vehicle if I have wallet balance, but no credit card linked?

No. A valid credit card must be linked to your account by 30 September 2026 before you can start a charging session, even if you have wallet balance remaining. Any available wallet balance will be used automatically during payment. This helps ensure a seamless charging experience.

Will my wallet balance expire?

No. Your remaining wallet balance will continue to be available for charging until it is fully depleted, unless otherwise communicated by Shell Recharge.

Where can I view my remaining wallet balance?

You can view your wallet balance in the Shell Recharge app. Any remaining balance will continue to be displayed and used automatically for charging sessions.

Can I get a refund of my remaining wallet balance?

Yes. If you do not wish to use your remaining wallet balance, you may contact Customer Support to request a refund. Refund requests are subject to verification checks.

How do I request a refund?

Please contact Customer Support by emailing support.asia@shellrecharge.com or calling +65 6227 5944 and our team will guide you through the verification and refund process.

Can I continue using my wallet after requesting a refund?

No. Once a refund request has been verified and initiated, your wallet balance will be locked to prevent duplicate usage.

Can I request a refund while I have an active charging session?

To ensure your charging session is completed successfully, refund requests can only be processed after any active charging session has ended. Once your session is complete, our Customer Support team will be happy to assist with your refund request.

How long does a refund take?

Once all required documents have been received and verification is completed; refunds are typically processed within 4–6 weeks.

Can I request a refund for only part of my wallet balance?

No. Partial refunds are not available. You may either request a refund for your full remaining wallet balance or continue using it for charging until fully utilised.

Why do I see a $30 charge when I use my credit card?

A temporary $30 pre-authorisation hold may be placed on your card when a charging session starts to verify your payment method. This is not a final charge and will be adjusted once the session is completed.

If you do not see the correct transaction amount within 3-5 working days after your charging session ends, please contact support.asia@shellrecharge.com and provide the date, time, and station number of the charging session for assistance.

RFID Ordering in the Shell Recharge App

Is RFID ordering still available?

No. RFID ordering via the Shell Recharge app is no longer available.

Why can’t I order an RFID card?

The RFID ordering feature has been disabled as part of an app update.

  • If you’ve updated your app, the RFID ordering button will no longer appear
  • If you haven’t updated your app yet, you may see an error when tapping the button

Can I still charge my vehicle?

Yes. You can continue charging using:

  • Existing RFID card
  • Fleet card
  • Credit or debit card
  • Shell Recharge in‑app wallet (if applicable)

What should I do if I see an error message?

Please update your Shell Recharge app to the latest version. Once updated, the RFID ordering option will be removed.

Do existing RFID cards still work?

Yes. This change only affects ordering of RFID cards in the app, not charging functionality.

Which service stations are smart and clean energy-powered?

  • The three smart and clean energy-powered service stations are Shell Lakeview, Shell Pasir Ris and Shell Tampines.
  • The project is already operational in Shell Lakeview. Starting today, Shell Recharge customers can enjoy high-powered charging with 100% certified renewable energy. The Shell Recharge customers of Shell Tampines and Shell Pasir Ris will also enjoy the same from 31 August and 30 September respectively.

Is Shell Recharge for a quick charge or for a full charge?

  • Given the demand for Shell Recharge at our service stations, especially during peak hours, Shell encourages customers to move their EVs once the vehicle is charged to 80%. This is because the charging rate will slow down for most EVs after that.
  • The driver may stay in the car while it is charging or step out to our stores to enjoy offerings from Shell Select, Shell Café and numerous retail brand partners such as McDonald’s, Yakun and more, while monitoring their EV’s charging progress through the Shell Recharge app.
  • Customers should only leave their cars in the Shell Recharge space for the time needed to charge their car out of courtesy to other customers who may be looking for a charging point.

Where does the renewable electricity come from?

  • At these stations, all Shell Recharge customers will be charging with electricity from 100% certified renewable sources – including the solar panels at the rooftops of these stations and other Shell rooftops across Singapore.
  • The sources of this renewable electricity include the 37 Shell stations with rooftop PV installed , including at these three stations, and the Shell Tuas Lubricant Plant in Singapore.

What’s a Renewable Energy Certificate?

The Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) is there to provide complete transparency to customers about the proportion of electricity in the Singapore grid that is supplied by renewable sources. Every time one megawatt hour (MWh) of renewable electricity is produced, a REC is issued by certified registries in accordance with applicable industry standards. Shell uses these RECs to provide an audit trail that matches the units of energy retailed for the EV-charging services at these three sites with those generated from a renewable energy source. The number of RECs that are available match the exact amount of renewable electricity that is produced from the abovementioned renewable energy sources located on Shell’s assets in Singapore and is put into the national power grid.

How do RECs benefit customers?

  • RECs are the best way to ensure that the energy consumed whilst recharging your vehicle is matched to renewable energy sources. This helps customers track their carbon footprint and enables them to play a role in supporting the transition to a low carbon energy future.
  • All power retailed to the Shell Recharge EV-charging customers will be 100% certified as renewable energy through the retirement of an equivalent volume of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).

What is Shell Recharge?

Shell Recharge is Shell’s Electric Vehicle (EV) charging service at stations, it offers on-the-go charging to customers. The rapid 50kW direct current (DC) chargers are compatible with most EVs and will provide a 0-80% charge in approximately 30 minutes. Shell Recharge in Singapore can support both CCS (combined charging system) and Type 2 (43kW AC) connectors.

Why have I been charged $30?

This is a temporary hold that has been placed on your account pending the completion of a session paid with your credit card. If you do not see the correct transaction amount within 24 hours after the session is completed, please don't hesitate to contact us. When reaching out to Support.Asia@Shellrecharge.com, kindly include the date, time, and station number where you were charging.

What is the difference between a ‘rapid’, a ‘fast’ and a ‘high-powered’ charger?

Shell Recharge offers rapid chargers which are our 50kW chargers and typically charge most EVs in approximately 30 minutes1. High-powered chargers are 150kW chargers and can deliver power up to three times faster. Fast chargers are usually either 7kW or 22 kW and so take longer to charge your car. These chargers are usually located in areas where the EV will be parked for a longer time (e.g. car parks).

1Results may vary, no guarantees provided. Charging speed depends on several factors including temperature outside, type of car, size of battery and battery condition. Please check with your OEM for compatibility and further information.
