To deter hogging and reduce waiting times for EV drivers, we will be introducing idle fees at all Shell Recharge chargers, excluding chargers at HDB car parks and condominiums starting 1 September 2025. We believe this measure will promote considerate charging behavior, enhance charger availability and improve the overall experience for all EV drivers. Thank you for your cooperation.

Idle fees are fees that apply when a vehicle remains plugged in after the charging session has ended and after the 15 minutes grace period for Shell stations and 30-minute grace period for all other chargers excluding chargers at Shell stations, HDB car parks and condominiums has passed.

Idle fees will apply 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
With effect from 1 September 2025, idle fees will apply to all chargers except chargers at HDB car parks and condominiums.

Idle fees are applied at locations where we have observed high congestion and significant idling which impacts the availability and overall charging experience for our users. As such, we have introduced idle fees at selected locations to reduce waiting times and improve charger availability.
As EV adoption grows in Singapore, we will expand idle fees to more locations based on data and feedback.

The idle fee is $0.50 per minute and is subject to a maximum cap of $40 per session. The fee starts after a 15-minute grace period at Shell stations and a 30-minute grace period at all chargers, excluding chargers at Shell stations, HDB car parks and condominiums following the end of the charging session.

Yes, there is a 15-minute grace period at Shell stations and a 30-minute grace period at all Shell Recharge chargers excluding chargers at Shell stations, HDB car parks and condominiums which starts immediately after your charging session completes.

A charging session is complete when the vehicle stops drawing power from the charger. This can be initiated by (i) the user, (ii) the vehicle, or (iii) the charger. Notifications pushed out by the Shell Recharge Asia app will inform you when your charging session is complete.

Idle fees will be billed through the same payment method used for the charging session. The transaction screen on the Shell Recharge Asia app will display details of the charging session including the cost of the charging session and the idle fees applied.

Yes, the maximum cap is $40 per session. We recommend moving your vehicle once charging is complete to avoid idle fees and allow for other vehicles to use the chargers.

At the end of your charge session, a push notification will be sent to prompt you to unplug your vehicle from the connector to avoid an idle fee.
To determine if idle fee have been applied at the end of the charging session when you've unplugged the connector, you can view your charging session bill (on the Shell Recharge Asia app or by your nominated email address).
Prior to initiating a charge session via the Shell Recharge Asia app, we recommend all users to review the 'Price Details' section of the Shell Recharge Asia app for all pricing details including whether idle fees are applied.

Idle fees will apply regardless. To avoid this, please enable push notifications on the Shell Recharge Asia app to receive notifications about at the start of the 15-minute grace period for chargers at Shell stations and a 30-minute grace period for chargers at commercial buildings.
As an alternative, please keep a tab on the mailbox of your registered email id as well since we'll send you an email upon completion of charging.

No, idle fees will only apply after the charging session is complete. Once a charging session completes, there is a 15-minute grace period for chargers at Shell stations and a 30-minute grace period for chargers at commercial buildings before idle fees are applied.

Yes, you will be charged for 1 minute of idle time as we round up to the nearest minute when calculating idle fees. Idle fees are calculated on a per-minute basis.
