Shell Recharge is designed to work with most vehicle types that are currently on the road. Our chargers provide connections for CCS Type 2 connector for DC charging and IEC Type 2 connector for AC charging.

Details of the Idle Fees:
Locations: All Shell Recharge chargers, excluding chargers at HDB car parks and condominiums
Effective Date: Monday, 1 September 2025
Idle Fee: $0.50 per minute (capped at $40)
Grace Period:
- Shell stations – 15 mins
- All other chargers excluding chargers at Shell stations, HDB car parks and condominium – 30 mins
Examples of Idle Fee Calculation:
Idle for 30 minutes after charging stops: $15 actual charging cost
Idle for 31 minutes after charging stops: $15 + $0.50 idle fee = $15.50
Idle for 110 minutes after charging stops: $15 + $40 idle fee (cap) = $55

1. What are idle fees?
Idle fees are fees that apply when a vehicle remains plugged in after the charging session has ended and after the 30-minute grace period has passed.
2. When do idle fees apply?
Idle fees will apply 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
3. Are idle fees imposed on all Shell Recharge chargers?
No, idle fees do not apply to all Shell Recharge chargers.
With effect from 10 February 2025, idle fees will apply to Shell Recharge chargers located at Wisma Atria, Seletar Mall, Suntec City, Paragon and Metropolis. Subscription customers with free charging will still be subject to idle fees.
4. Why are idle fees only applicable at selected locations?
Idle fees are applied at locations where we have observed high congestion and significant idling which impacts the availability and overall charging experience for our drivers. As such, we have introduced idle fees at selected locations to reduce waiting times and improve charger availability.
As EV adoption grows in Singapore, we will expand idle fees to more locations based on data and feedback.
5. What is the idle fee rate?
The idle fee is $0.50 per minute and is subject to a maximum cap of $40 per session. The fee starts after a 30-minute grace period following the end of the charging session.
6. Is there a grace period before the idle fee is imposed?
Yes, there is a 30-minute grace period which starts immediately after your charging session completes.
7. When is a charging session complete?
A charging session is complete when the vehicle stops drawing power from the charger. This can be initiated by (i) the driver, (ii) the vehicle, or (iii) the charger. Notifications pushed out by the Shell Recharge Asia app will inform you when your charging session is complete.
8. How will I be billed for the idle fee?
Idle fees will be billed through the same payment method used for the charging session. The transaction screen on the Shell Recharge Asia app will display details of the charging session including the cost of the charging session and the idle fees applied.
9. Is there a maximum cap on the idle fee charged?
Yes, the maximum cap is $40 per session. We recommend moving your vehicle once charging is complete to avoid idle fees and allow for other vehicles to use the chargers.
10. How do I know when I’ve incurred an idle fee?
At the end of your charge session, a push notification will be sent to prompt you to unplug your vehicle from the connector to avoid an idle fee.
To determine if idle fee have been applied at the end of the charging session when you've unplugged the connector, you can view your charging session bill (on the Shell Recharge Asia app or by your nominated email address).
Prior to initiating a charge session via the Shell Recharge Asia app, we recommend all users to review the 'Price Details' section of the Shell Recharge Asia app for all pricing details including whether idle fees are applied.
11. What if I do not have push notifications activated?
Idle fees will apply regardless. To avoid this, please enable push notifications on the Shell Recharge Asia app to receive notifications about at the start of the 30-minute grace period.
As an alternative, please keep a tab on the mailbox of your registered email ID as well since we'll send you an email upon completion of charging.

13. Do idle fees apply if other EV charging lots are available?
Yes, idle fees are applicable, regardless of whether there are other available lots or not.
14. Do idle fees apply while a vehicle is actively charging?
No, idle fees will only apply after the charging session is complete. Once a charging session completes, there is a 30-minute grace period before idle fees are applied.
15. I unplugged my vehicle 30 seconds after the 30-minute grace period ends. Am I still charged idle fees?
Yes, you will be charged for one minute of idle time as we round up to the nearest minute when calculating idle fees. Idle fees are calculated on a per-minute basis.
16. What should I do if I face any problems with idle fees?

Which service stations are smart and clean energy-powered?
- The three smart and clean energy-powered service stations are Shell Lakeview, Shell Pasir Ris and Shell Tampines.
- The project is already operational in Shell Lakeview. Starting today, Shell Recharge customers can enjoy high-powered charging with 100% certified renewable energy. The Shell Recharge customers of Shell Tampines and Shell Pasir Ris will also enjoy the same from 31 August and 30 September respectively.

- Given the demand for Shell Recharge at our service stations, especially during peak hours, Shell encourages customers to move their EVs once the vehicle is charged to 80%. This is because the charging rate will slow down for most EVs after that.
- The driver may stay in the car while it is charging or step out to our stores to enjoy offerings from Shell Select, Shell Café and numerous retail brand partners such as McDonald’s, Yakun and more, while monitoring their EV’s charging progress through the Shell Recharge app.
- Customers should only leave their cars in the Shell Recharge space for the time needed to charge their car out of courtesy to other customers who may be looking for a charging point.

- At these stations, all Shell Recharge customers will be charging with electricity from 100% certified renewable sources – including the solar panels at the rooftops of these stations and other Shell rooftops across Singapore.
- The sources of this renewable electricity include the 37 Shell stations with rooftop PV installed , including at these three stations, and the Shell Tuas Lubricant Plant in Singapore.

What’s a Renewable Energy Certificate?
The Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) is there to provide complete transparency to customers about the proportion of electricity in the Singapore grid that is supplied by renewable sources. Every time one megawatt hour (MWh) of renewable electricity is produced, a REC is issued by certified registries in accordance with applicable industry standards. Shell uses these RECs to provide an audit trail that matches the units of energy retailed for the EV-charging services at these three sites with those generated from a renewable energy source. The number of RECs that are available match the exact amount of renewable electricity that is produced from the abovementioned renewable energy sources located on Shell’s assets in Singapore and is put into the national power grid.

- RECs are the best way to ensure that the energy consumed whilst recharging your vehicle is matched to renewable energy sources. This helps customers track their carbon footprint and enables them to play a role in supporting the transition to a low carbon energy future.
- All power retailed to the Shell Recharge EV-charging customers will be 100% certified as renewable energy through the retirement of an equivalent volume of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).

Shell Recharge is Shell’s Electric Vehicle (EV) charging service at stations, it offers on-the-go charging to customers. The rapid 50kW direct current (DC) chargers are compatible with most EVs and will provide a 0-80% charge in approximately 30 minutes. Shell Recharge in Singapore can support both CCS (combined charging system) and Type 2 (43kW AC) connectors.

This is a temporary hold that has been placed on your account pending the completion of a session paid with your credit card. If you do not see the correct transaction amount within 24 hours after the session is completed, please don't hesitate to contact us. What is the difference between a ‘rapid’, a ‘fast’ and a ‘high-powered’ charger?
Shell Recharge offers rapid chargers which are our 50kW chargers and typically charge most EVs in approximately 30 minutes1. High-powered chargers are 150kW chargers and can deliver power up to three times faster. Fast chargers are usually either 7kW or 22 kW and so take longer to charge your car. These chargers are usually located in areas where the EV will be parked for a longer time (e.g. car parks).
