What we look for:

You’ll be evaluated on your capacity for analysis, decision-making and creating workable solutions, as well as your drive, enthusiasm, resilience and confidence.

During an Assessed Internship, you’ll have a formal mid-term review with your mentor and supervisor. Following this, there will be a final review where there would be a competency based interview. You’ll also be asked to prepare a final presentation about your project.

Your success in the Assessed Internship could result in you being offered a full time role.

Internship Process

Mentoring and Coaching

When you join us, you will have a mentor and a supervisor to guide you throughout the internship. Your supervisor will provide day-to-day guidance and support, whilst your mentor acts as a sounding board, providing experienced advice and support. Your mentor is usually someone senior in your line of business.

Mid-Internship Review

A meeting will take place mid-way through your internship with your supervisor and mentor. The purpose of this meeting is to review whether you have met the milestones set at the start of the project, to provide you with feedback on your performance to date, and to give you examples of where you are doing well and area for improvement, using the CAR framework.

Internship Outcome

If the overall evaluation of your internship meets our minimum employment standards, we will seek to identify a suitable position on the graduate programme for you.

Energy Transition Challenge: Searching for New Energies

Energy fuels both the global economy and our everyday lives, and with a global improvement of living standards and population growth, we are seeing the continued rise in demand for energy. The big challenge is how to provide much more energy while, at the same time, significantly reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. This is what we call the Energy Challenge.

Working towards a low-carbon future

We recognise the significance of climate change, along with the role energy plays in helping people achieve and maintain an good quality of life. A key role for society—and for Shell—is to find ways to provide much more energy with less carbon dioxide. This global energy transition therefore requires a huge undertaking—producing and consuming energy in a different way. We need to design our economies, communities, and lives to thrive on these energy systems.

Application Process

Stage 1 – Online Assessments

After you’ve submitted your application, you’ll be asked to complete four online game-based assessments. These games measure various cognitive abilities and your working style preferences by presenting you with different challenges.

Altogether this will take approximately 20 minutes and will need to be completed within five days of receiving the assessment invite.

On-Demand Video interview

This short, self-recorded video interview is an opportunity for you to tell us about yourself and your qualifications. You’ll also see some of our current graduates who will ask you a series of pre-recorded competency-based questions. You may record the interview at any internet-enabled location at a time most convenient to you. For each question, you’ll have 30 seconds to prepare and 3 minutes to record your answer.

Stage 2 – Final Assessment

This is the last assessment stage. It consists of a face to face session with two professionals at Shell. During this session you will be asked to discuss your thoughts on a case study, which you will have a chance to review 48 hours prior to the session. You will need to read and prepare for this, but don’t worry, more information will be provided closer to the time. On the day of your assessment, you will be assigned a topic relating to your case study and then given 20 minutes (30 for non-native English speakers) to prepare a 5-minute presentation. This presentation will be followed by questions and additional scenarios from the assessors for up to 30 minutes. After this, will be an interview - this is where you have the chance to get to know us, and for us to get to know you better. To make the interview process more convenient and comfortable, we are leveraging the latest digital technology to bring the experience to you – wherever you may be.

Shell Connect

We’d love for you to come and visit us and get a taste of what it’s like to work at Shell. You’ll be welcomed to our offices to meet a variety of people ranging from senior leaders to new joiners like you. Along with seeing the facilities, you will learn more about the energy industry, the career development opportunities available, and the culture that you would be a part of.

*If there are any circumstances preventing a visit to a Shell office, your Recruitment point of contact will be in touch and provide further advice.

Shell Internship

Following the successful completion of the assessments, you will be offered a place on the internship programme.

During an Assessed Internship, you will have a formal mid-term review with your mentor and supervisor. At the end of the internship, there will be a final review, which also serves the purpose of the Stage 2 Part Assessment. You will have to sit for a competency-based interview. You will also be asked to prepare a final presentation about your project.

Offer

Your success in the Assessed Internship could result in you being offered an Employment opportunity in a full-time role.
