Bernard Chiam

Bernard Chiam, Health Safety Security and Environment Advisor, who will celebrate working 50 years in Shell this year.
“On August 1 2016, I will have spent 50 years in Shell’s employment. I am now on my post-retirement job with Shell. Our organisation can be proud of the policy of bringing back oldies into the fold to mingle with the younger employees and share their experiences. This policy certainly has preceded the Government’s initiative to extend the retirement age by re-engaging retirees who can return to contribute and add value to their companies. It’s awesome to be on the construction team of the new office building project, a major milestone for SJI folks.”
Thio Chin-Wui

Thio Chin-Wui, Social Performance and Social Investment Advisor, Shell Singapore, whose first job was in Pulau Bukom
“I recently celebrated my 10th year with Shell. When I first reported to work, I had to grapple with the uneasiness of taking a ferry to Pulau Bukom – I felt so marooned! But that apprehension soon gave way to a sense of community with my friendly colleagues.
I often wonder why I have stayed on with Shell. I think it’s because Shell has continued to offer me various fun and interesting jobs. I have performed roles in IT application management, retail project management, outsourcing contract management to social investment. Shell has also appealed to my thirst for adventure. My roles have brought me to a job stint in the United Kingdom, and I have travelled to places like Manila, Budapest and Istanbul for work.
I am confident that Shell will continue to be relevant and to live up to its core values. I hope it continues to bring positive impact to future generations. And I hope to be part of this future.”
Amy Tan

Amy Tan, Business Analyst, Functional Application Delivery, who has worked in Shell for almost 17 years
“To me, if a company can be sustained for so long, it should be a trustworthy company. Going forward, I hope to see Shell move to a higher level of service in terms of innovation, such as mobile or online applications, and to continue for another 125 years.”
Chan Kin Mun

Chan Kin Mun, Manager Operations Support East, who has been in Shell for four years
“We just celebrated our nation’s 50 years of independence in such a grand way, and yet I am working for a company with 125 years of history. I am proud of working for Shell for the reason that it has been a strong corporate citizen and is an inextricable part of Singapore’s success.
My wish for Shell is that we will be able to transform ourselves fast enough to face the challenges we are facing today, and become a strong company with nimble policies staffed with talented and diverse people who can continuously adapt themselves to the environment we exist in.”
