Goh Swee Chen, Chairman, Shell Companies in Singapore

Goh Swee Chen has been the Chairman of Shell Companies in Singapore since October 2014. Concurrent to her Chairman role, Swee Chen is also Vice President, City Solutions – New Energies, a role she assumed from January 2017. She spent a large part of her career leading significant businesses with multinational teams across the world. Swee Chen also has a diverse professional background having spent her career in IT, Real Estate and running P&Ls in Consumer Goods and Oil & Gas industries.

Emily Tan, General Manager, Energy Transition Singapore & Shell Ventures Singapore

Emily Tan is the General Manager, Energy Transition Singapore and Shell Ventures Singapore. Emily delivers the Energy Transition Programme in Singapore, and supports Shell Ventures’ growth aspirations in Asia.

Emily brings with her a wealth of experience in building teams and delivering growth. She was previously General Manager of Shell’s Bitumen business in Asia and Middle East, where she firmly established Shell as the market leader in the region. Prior to that she was Commercial Manager for Shell Chemicals. 

Before joining Shell, Emily had started a technology commercialisation company which licensed out over 100 technologies and spun off over 20 start-ups. She started her career with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) where she played numerous roles, including Head of International Policy and Director of EDB London Centre. 

Emily has an MBA from INSEAD, a Masters from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a bachelor degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, both in Electrical Engineering.

Stephen Fowler, Vice President Chemicals & New Energies Technology

Stephen Fowler is the Vice President of Chemicals & New Energies Technology, assuming the role in March 2018. He is accountable for R&D, project development and asset support for Shell’s Chemicals and New Energies businesses. He is also responsible for the delivery of the Shell’s Long Range Research programme, including partnerships with Universities. The organisation spans Shell’s three technology centers in Amsterdam, Houston and Bangalore. 
Prior to assuming his current role Stephen spent five years in Singapore as General Manager of Shell Jurong Island (SJI). SJI is a Chemicals manufacturing site producing petrochemicals such as styrene monomer, propylene oxide, polyether polyols and propylene glycols, mono-ethylene glycol, high-purity ethylene oxide and oleo-alcohol ethoxylates. Stephen first joined Shell in 1989 and has held a variety of roles in Shell’s European Manufacturing, Canadian Upstream and Global Projects and Technology businesses.

Stephen has over 15 years of experience as a venture capitalist and private equity investor in Silicon Valley and New York, founding, financing, and actively managing highly-disruptive, early-stage technology companies and business model innovation plays. He currently leads investment teams in making, monitoring and exiting investments for Shell Ventures with a focus on businesses innovating at the nexus of Silicon Valley & China. He also has over a decade of experience as a business strategist with a focus on design thinking, innovation and new venture creation and acceleration. As a Founding Partner (with Professor Gary Hamel) of Strategos, he focuses on developing and implementing game-changing growth strategies, new venture design and acceleration, and complex organisational transformation with both Fortune 1000 and entrepreneurial growth companies.
