Shell and Busways delight Electric Vehicle fleet owners with Singapore’s fastest charging system for e-buses and more
This proof-of-concept is the first ultra-fast charging solution of up to 360kW in Singapore, designed for the safety of fleet drivers. It is now open for corporate trials in the registration form below.
The challenges of commercial EV ownership
Fleet owners of electric vehicles (EV) in Singapore today are faced with limited locations and space constraints for heavy-duty EVs to park for charging. There is also the issue of incompatible power rating for existing chargers, where the voltage of the existing charger is unable to support the charging of the new and upcoming heavy-duty EV models. Building infrastructure, like power, also limits the type of chargers that can be installed at the premises. We recognise the need for rapid and safer charging solutions for commercial heavy-duty EV such as e-buses and e-trucks.
Aligned with Singapore Government’s commitment to encourage EV adoption rates and accelerate commercial EV charging infrastructure, a proof-of-concept of Singapore’s fastest charging solution for heavy-duty EVs is here to help.
On 28 June 2023, the Busways-Shell Consortium established a proof-of-concept (POC) showcase to demonstrate the deployment and maintenance of the highest-powered rating Electric Vehicle Charging System (EVCS) in Singapore. Providing up to 360kW ultra-fast EV charging, this is the highest charger rating certified for commercial usage in Singapore at time of launch and will address the challenges many fleet owners face in the journey towards electrification.
The Busways-Shell Consortium’s objective of the POC, installed at Woodlands Spectrum1, is to collaborate closely with selected EVCS OEMs to understand the ways of working and best methods to install, operate and maintain high-powered chargers in Singapore’s climate. The POC showcases an EVCS cable management system, which includes features such as the retractable cabling which is designed with safety of the drivers in mind to minimise the pulling force by 50% and also reduce tripping hazards. This retractable cable management feature protects the cables when they are retracted to the holder, reducing the wear-and-tear normally caused when cables are left exposed on the ground for significant periods. The POC will also showcase a Charging Station Management System (CSMS) that provides energy management and fleet management solutions to address different levels of grid constraints. Overall, this showcase will demonstrate innovative technical solutions in Singapore’s market which account for space constraints and the design of EVCS deployments for commercial customers.
Calling all fleet EV owners, come experience it for yourself in our trial tests
The Busways-Shell Consortium aims to test the charging capabilities of the EVCS on commercial EVs, such as e-buses and e-trucks. We are now also accepting corporate enquiries for trial testing of e-buses and other forms of heavy-duty EVs for a period of up to 12 months, until August 2024. You can register your interest in this form:
Shell is aligned with Singapore Government’s commitment to encourage EV adoption rate and accelerate commercial EV charging infrastructure. We recognise the need for more rapid, safer charging solutions for the commercial industry’s heavy-duty EVs. We are eager to develop a solution catered for heavy duty e-fleet owners with our partners.
It is an honour to collaborate with Shell and power the progress of e-mobility together. By coupling our engineering capabilities with Shell's global expertise in deploying mobility charging solutions at scale, we can now deliver a reliable and sustainable solution required for the electrification of commercial fleets.
