General
1. What is nett price? What is gross price?
Nett price is the actual price you pay (or price after discounts are given).
Gross price is the pump price (or price before discounts are given).
2. Why did Shell rollout the new price boards?
Shell is responding to the recommendation by the government to post prices and taking it one step further by displaying the nett prices (pump price after discount) for both petrol and diesel.
Shell's decision to move to nett prices on our price board is in response to customers' feedback that they find the current discount signs to be extremely confusing.
Shell's new price board helps to provide simple and transparent pricing to customers by stating upfront the nett unit price/litre.
3. Where can I find nett price and gross price at Shell stations?
Nett prices are found on the new price boards outside the stations. Gross prices are retail pump prices displayed at pump.
Both nett and gross prices will be shown on top of the pump before customers make their choice, and also reflected at the cashier counter poster when you pay at the cashier.
You will actually pay for nett prices or prices after discount.
4. What is the actual price I am paying for my fuel purchase? What can I see on my receipt?
On your receipt, you will see gross price, discounts given, quantity of fuel purchased and amount to be paid.
You will actually pay for nett prices or prices after discount.
5. What are the new price boards called? How do I read them?
The new price boards will show nett prices or prices after discounts for Shell FuelSave 98 (UL98), Shell FuelSave 95 (UL95) and Shell Diesel.
They show prices after discounts in the form of S$/litre, up to 3 decimal points.
6. Why isn't VP shown on the new price boards?
As the majority of customers use UL95, 98 and Diesel we decided to only advertise these prices on the board to allow for large simple and transparent sign clearly visible when you approach our sites.
If you are by any chance a VP user, you will always know that the price you pay is the nett price after discounts. We do have the nett prices for all fuel grades displayed on the top of the pump and reflected at the cashier counter poster if you need to confirm.
7. What happened to the discount signs? How do I know how much I am actually paying?
The discount signs will be progressively replaced by the new price boards.
What you see on the new price boards will be the nett price/litre.
8. Are Shell petrol prices competitive compared to competitors?
Yes.
9. Will Shell be able to prove that your prices are competitive?
Shell regularly monitors our nett prices versus the price from our competitors, and Shell is committed to offering competitive prices across Singapore.
10. Will Shell offer this nett price commitment to all petrol and diesel grades? Including VP despite it not being shown on the new price boards?
Yes. Nett prices or prices after discounts apply for all grades of fuels inclusive of VP. The nett prices for VP is displayed on top of the pump and also at the cashier counter.
