About Shell LiveWire

Shell LiveWIRE aims to encourage and give young people access to resources and advice on starting a business as a career option, provide a mentoring programme for young entrepreneurs in the early stages of their business start-up and assist young entrepreneurs to develop the necessary skills to manage a new business.

The programme also rewards and raises the profile of outstanding young entrepreneurs through its prestigious Shell LiveWIRE Awards.

Shell LiveWIRE was officially launched in Singapore on 23 August 2000 by the Senior Minister of State for Education, Mr Peter Chen. It was launched in conjunction with the opening of the ITE Technopreneurship Incubation Centre (TIC).

The programme is implemented through a partnership with the Institute of Technical Studies (ITE), the ITE Alumni Association, the Chinese Newspaper Division of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and Shell Companies in Singapore.

Apart from the prestigious Shell LiveWIRE Award, Shell LiveWIRE Singapore runs a series of workshops that inform, educate and train actual and potential young entrepreneurs to promote youthful enterprise in the community. Participants of these workshops include students, staff and graduates of the ITE and members of the general public. Some of these workshops have been conducted for secondary schools where students were able to apply the business skills and techniques they acquired to entrepreneurial projects like a thrift shop or a carnival.

Shell LiveWIRE Singapore also partners with the North East Community Development Council to organise the Mayor’s Innobiz Awards and manage an Innovation and Creativity Fund. The fund is disbursed to entrepreneurial clubs and small, teething business set ups with the aim of boosting entrepreneurial activities in the North East district.

Shell LiveWIRE International works to promote the spirit of enterprise in young people around the world.  Working through local enterprise development organisations and partnerships with schools, universities, governments, other corporations and community programmes, Shell LiveWIRE delivers practical support to those people as they develop the skills needed to plan, launch and manage new business enterprises.

The international development is being supported by research conducted on a country-by-country basis to explore critical issues and opportunities facing young people and their start-up businesses.
