New Breakthrough Petrol "Shell Fuelsave" To Help Drivers Save Up To One Litre With Every Full Tank
08/10/2009
Shell today launched its most advanced fuel economy formula fuel ever – the new ‘Shell FuelSave’, designed to help drivers save up to one litre of fuel with every full tank*.
New fuel is the culmination of Shell’s efforts to help motorists “Get the most out of every drop”

(L-R): Shell Fuel Technology Manager for Asia Pacific and Middle East Mr. Eric Holthusen, Shell FuelSave Ambassador Ms. Eunice Olsen and General Manager for Retail Sales and Operations, Shell Eastern Petroleum (Pte) Ltd, Mr. Henry Chu.
Now available at all Shell stations island-wide, the new breakthrough fuel, in 95- and 98-octane grades, reinforces Shell’s aim to help motorists get the most out of every drop of fuel, addressing their demand for greater fuel efficiency and savings, especially in the current economic climate. It has replaced Shell’s previous Formula 95 and 98 at no additional cost.
The innovation behind the new Shell FuelSave is a specially-formulated Efficiency Improver that gets to work as soon as you fill up. It reduces energy loss by lubricating where engine oils are less effective.
Eric Holthusen, Shell’s Fuel Technology Manager for Asia-Pacific & Middle East, said, “New Shell FuelSave has been formulated to help drivers save more than ever before, making it easier for them to reduce fuel consumption and costs. The secret is the Efficiency Improver, designed to deliver instant benefits as soon as you fill up. The fuel has undergone rigorous testing at an independent laboratory in a globally-representative selection of vehicle technologies using an industry-standard test procedure. It is Shell’s most-advanced fuel economy fuel to-date.”
Mr. Henry Chu, General Manager, Retail Sales & Operations, Shell Eastern Petroleum (Pte) Ltd, said: “Shell’s global market research** revealed that Singapore motorists are now more aware and conscious of fuel efficiency with the figure rising from 24% to 74% in the last two years. We aim to help customers save 10% or more fuel while driving, and the new Shell FuelSave is integral to our efforts. We want our customers to get the most out of every drop of their fuel by using Shell FuelSave in combination with FuelSave tips, as well as through our promotions and partnerships.”
According to Shell’s global market research, Singapore motorists are now more willing to modify their driving habits to save fuel, especially in the current economic climate. In fact, 90 per cent of drivers in Singapore said they welcome more information on how to be more fuel-efficient and are willing to change their driving behaviour to save more at the pump.
Shell FuelSave Ambassador Eunice Olsen was at the launch event to share her experience thus far working with Shell on its FuelSave programme: “I’m thrilled to be working with Shell. Over the last few months, I’ve undergone specialised training with Shell technical experts and Guinness World Record holders John and Helen Taylor. I have tried the new fuel and can attest to how easy it is to save if you combine the right fuel with the right fuel saving knowledge.”
Eunice Olsen also recently went up against six other Shell FuelSave Ambassadors at the 2009 Shell Eco-marathon in Germany to see who could travel the furthest on one litre of fuel. Eunice emerged runner-up with 20.8 km covered on one litre of Shell FuelSave. New Shell FuelSave is available at all Shell stations island-wide from today.
Notes for Editors
Shell is the world’s largest fuels retailer with about 45,000 retail stations in over 90 countries. Shell has over 100 years of experience developing the technology and services that make it a leading provider of innovative new fuels today. In the 1920s, Shell introduced Shell Dynamin, a fuel that offered some of the most advanced engine efficiency of its time. In the 1950s, Shell fuel included a proven mileage ingredient.
In 2006, Shell launched Shell Unleaded with Fuel Economy formula and set a Guinness World Record for fuel economy by helping a couple from Australia, John and Helen Taylor, to circumnavigate the globe using only 24 tanks of Shell Unleaded with Fuel Economy formula. In 2007, Shell added to its fuel economy product offerings with the launch of new and improved Shell Diesel with Fuel Economy formula. 2007 also saw the release of the Shell Global Fuel Economy Report, which revealed the thoughts of 3,300 people across 11 countries, showing people’s awareness of fuel economy. This research lead to the development of the Shell FuelSave Challenge, through which Shell trained over 2,000 drivers around the world in fuel efficiency, with two in three of them saving fuel and the best performers saving 24%.
Rounding out Shell’s rich heritage in fuel economy is the Shell Eco-marathon. Back in 1939, Shell started the predecessor of today’s popular Shell Eco-marathon, an annual competition in Europe and America challenging students to build and drive vehicles that will go the furthest using the least amount of fuel. This initiative links to the responsibility Shell has as an energy company, to work to reduce the impact of its business on the environment. The 2008 Shell Eco-marathon attracted over 250 teams of young students from 20 countries. The winning team achieved a fuel consumption equivalent to 3,382 kms on a single litre of fuel. This year, the Shell Eco-marathon celebrates its 25th anniversary in Germany in May 2009. The inaugural Shell Eco-marathon Asia will take place at Sepang, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia on 9-10 July 2010.
