Clarification on false Shell 'Safety News' circulating on the Internet
An e-mail, purportedly issued by Shell, has been circulating on the Internet warning the public about the dangers of static electricity when refuelling at petrol stations. We confirm that Shell does not have any record of having issued such a warning on static electricity.
However, safety is priority at Shell, and we note that static electricity is a potential danger when refueling. It is therefore important to respect the safe refuelling guidelines, such as:
- Turn off the engine and deploy the hand brake
- Mobile phones must not be used while refuelling (either speaking or sending a text message)
- Ensure that the nozzle is properly inserted into the vehicle's fuel tank before refuelling
- Motorcyclists must dismount when refuelling
- Replace the nozzle properly in the holster after use
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
